Women’s residence of the CFLC

Austin, Texas – 1954

Women students were added to the CFLC in 1954. The Wooten Mansion served as the first women’s residence of the CFLC (Al Lingo, August 8, 2011).

Evanston, Illinois

The World Council of Churches delegates met in Evanston, Illinois in 1954. They passed a resolution to establish the Evanston Institute for Ecumenical Studies in Evanston, IL, a “lay academy for world churchmen,” to be modeled on the Ecumenical Institute in Bossey, Switzerland. The Evanston
Institute for Ecumenical studies was not related to the Christian Faith and Life Community.
