HIGHLIGHTS

By 1980 the people of Kapini celebrated the following accomplishments:

A Kapini Management Team has assumed responsibility for coordinating the daily operations of 14 functioning units and assures systematic financial responsibility of the project.
Loans for seed and fertilizer received by 60 farmers through the newly created Farmer’s Association yielded crops as much as 6 times the previous year’s harvest
5 new roads have been constructed 8 kilometers of existing roads widened and graded, including drainage ditches and a spillway crossing, and two bridges built; all done by resident labour.
The corporate power of the community is experienced through a village council of new and traditional leadership, village core of 30 meeting daily, and the leading of forums in 500 other villages by 12 residents.
The Kapini Health Care System of Health caretakers, monthly Under-Five Clinic, and sanitation program has been recognized by the Ministry of Health as a national demonstration for Zambia.
The Kapini preschool is operated by 8 teachers doing team teaching and curriculum planning for 150 children between 3-8 years, representing 90% of the community’s children of this age group.
