ACCOMPLISHMENTS
By 1980 the people of Kapini celebrated the following accomplishments:
- A Kapini Management Team has assumed responsibility for coordinating the daily operations of 14 functioning units and assures systematic financial responsibility of the project.
- Loans for seed and fertilizer received by 60 farmers through the newly created Farmer’s Association yielded crops as much as 6 times the previous year’s harvest
- 5 new roads have been constructed 8 kilometers of existing roads widened and graded, including drainage ditches and a spillway crossing, and two bridges built; all done by resident labour.
- The corporate power of the community is experienced through a village council of new and traditional leadership, village core of 30 meeting daily, and the leading of forums in 500 other villages by 12 residents.
- The Kapini Health Care System of Health caretakers, monthly Under-Five Clinic, and sanitation program has been recognized by the Ministry of Health as a national demonstration for Zambia.
- The Kapini preschool is operated by 8 teachers doing team teaching and curriculum planning for 150 children between 3-8 years, representing 90% of the community’s children of this age group.
