1932 – July 31, 2010
Titus started his teaching career as the Principal of a school in Malaysia. He was active in community work and the Rotary Club President of Taiping. In the 1970s he joined, with his wife, Augusta, the Institute of Cultural Affairs in Chicago where he lectured, led seminars and workshops in the Academy, which taught world cultures, group planning methods and other skills like leading town meetings. He trained both urban and rural local leaders in economically depressed communities in the United States as well as Australia, India and Malaysia in group planning and implementation of economic and social development projects for their communities.
Thank you for keeping us in touch across time zones and years at those spots when we all stop in our tracks to remember one another, such as
this time when we stop, indeed, to mark the passing of our colleague, Titus, a life for which we give abundant thanks.
Joe and I met Titus and Augusta in 1969 when they were participants in the first ITI in Singapore. They were strong Kuala Lumpur Region
colleagues, having taken courses and built a cadre in their locale. We remember Titus was then a School Principal -- the strong layman who
offered so much to the movement in the Kuala Lumpur Region and subsequently to the globe. And not a step behind Titus was lovely Augusta -- so accomplished
in so many ways, and a strong female leader who like many of the rest of us in the late 60's, early 70's represented one of the voices of a "new
day" in our Order.
Joe especially remembers Titus as "a scholar -- one who always explored the next chapter, step or phase -- whether in theology, philosophy,
sociology." We eagerly looked forward to his annual holiday updates. Joe always stopped and listened (to read) what Titus had to say --and
felt his wisdom was not to be ignored.
Our family stands in deep appreciation of the family Jayasekara, and the important role they played in the building of the Spirit Movement in
SEAPAC and the Globe. Grace and peace to all our colleagues in Sydney who carry on this legacy
of selfless service in small and large way. We love you and give deep thanks for your example to us in the US,
