MARY IRIS BOIVIN and Family

December 25, 1927  —  November 25, 1986

Memories of Mary Iris Boivin by friends and family.

On the Occasion of the Completed Life of Iris Boivin

by Edith Elizondo

She was as one rooted in the real stuff of life.

No shallow-rooted pansy she.

she had the gift of life which she chose to share with all.

She had no use for plastic saints –

Her touch with earth broke, indeed shattered,

           the bondage of simplistic pietism.

She chose to pour her life as a vessel of water –

in very particular places instead of dribbling it out across the desert.

In her own life

She broke stereotypes that liberated us all:

               — “you can’t get a good job without a college degree”

.— “you can’t have a calling beyond being a mother to nine children”

               — “you can’t start a. new career when you are over 40!”

In the midst of all this

She was so easy to talk with – so approachable.

She knew how to be present to you without being over you.

And in the midst of all this I can hear her saying:

“Don’t make it sound too good or people won’t recognize me.”

Her passion for the world and for its future,

was manifested throughout her life;

The cycle of concern and involvement widened and widened as the years passed.

Her home was the world, and the world lived in her.

And therefore to know her was to run into the world in kaleidoscope.
