OBITUARY
We are gathered here as family, friends and colleagues to celebrate the sojourn through life of Daniel Edward Townsend. Daniel was sent by God to live in this world, and now he has been called from this world. He was born in Chicago, Illinois and completed his life in Blue Island, Illinois. He was a graduate of Fenger High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper from 1969 – 1972.
Daniel was a grandson, a son, a nephew, an uncle, a brother and a husband. He was the grandson of Roy Hazmat, Warren Degner and Elsie Townsend. He was the son of Edward and Lorraine Townsend. He was the nephew of Charlotte Malborg, Delores Townsend, Ronald Townsend and Nancy Defoe, and the uncle of Sandra and Deanna Townsend. He was the brother of Robert, Laura, Raymond and Marilyn. He was the husband of Susan Ziolkowski Townsend.
Daniel was an electrical lineman for Commonwealth Edison Company for six years. His service and good-naturedness were appreciated greatly by his fellow workers. He was fatally injured in an accident while carrying out the duties of his job.
Daniel was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a colleague of the Order:Ecumenical. He was a man consumed with a desire to be of practical service to his fellow man as a global citizen. He gave profusely of his time, his resources and his skills in the work of the Institute of Cultural Affairs in Community Forums and Social Demonstration Consults. He demonstrated a unique type of care for the world. He embodied great compassion in his style of passionate engagement and disciplined integrity, serving as an address and an example to all who encountered it.
Daniel, finally was a solitary. He lived his life joyously and now, in awesome fulfillment, is living his death. His life is complete and will remain forever as part of the eternal mystery that shapes and creates the world.
