Chester Conway

Obituary

 

Chester Case Conway, M.D., was a son, a husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, and grandfather. He was the son of John G. and Gertie Case Conway, the husband of Genevieve, the father of Doris Jane, John Michael, and Kathleen, the eldest brother of seven children: Herman, Virgil, John, Nedra, Berniece and Vera, the brother-in-law of Lucille Kinsey, the grandfather of Scott Marshall, Vicki Lynn, David Case, Jessica Erin, and Dirk Jeremy.

 

He was a citizen of Indianapolis, a member of Roberts Park United Methodist Church, a medical doctor, and a family man. He came to Indianapolis in 1928, and with the exception of his years in Medical School in Bloomington, lived out hs life in Indianapolis.

 

He was baptized as a Methodist and for more than 49 years he was a member of Roberts Park Methodist Church, serving in many leadership roles, including the Official Board and Board of Trustees.

 

He was a guardian of the Ecumenical Institute: Chicago. For the last ten years he regularly contributed to the work of its programs in 5th City, Chicago, and various other community human development projects around the globe.

 

He was a family man.  On June 6, 1936 he married Genevieve Smith.  He wanted to go to medical school in China but could not afford to because of the depression; instead, he worked as a postman while attending Indiana University medical school. Genevieve and Chester were married for more than 40 years and had three children: Doris Jane, John Michael, and Kathleen.

 

Chester was a medical doctor who practiced from 1936-1976 as a general practitioner, obstetrician, and a surgeon. He journeyed the physical and spirit care of many thousands of people on the staff of several Indianapolis hospitals.
