Event Details

Start your bee-zy week with a buzz and join HandUp Congo, Rotarians for Bees and Wheen Bee Foundation for an interactive Virtual Meet Up on Monday, 23 May 2022, 8am – 9am (SYD AEST).  This is SUNDAY, May 22, 2022 5pm-6pm (CHI CDT). Don’t miss this – see the link at bottom of the page to find YOUR time zone.

This online event will feature bee-utiful humans sharing fun facts, inspiring stories and useful tips on how to make our outdoor spaces – from Australia to Congo – a welcoming habitat for both bees and pollinators.

Learn how an Aussie village called Hall embraces all-things-bee and what a village on the other side of the world called Lotumbe is doing to fight climate change.

Your booking helps raise funds to buy beekeeping equipment like gloves, bee suits, and smokers for a village in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), located in the world’s second-largest rainforest. The villagers know that without bees, our food security is at risk. That’s why food security needs bee security. Fundraising goal: $1000 US/$1400 AUD.

Hear from:

  • Dr. Vera Sistenich, a hobby beekeeper in Sydney, who has harvested 355 kilos of honey since 2015 and raised more than $16,000 to benefit emergency medicine education and beekeeping projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo
  • Fiona Chambers, CEO of Wheen Bee Foundation. Wheen Bee Foundation is a registered Australian charity that promotes awareness of the importance of bees for food security, biodiversity, and ecosystem health, and funds research and development activities that address the national and global threats to bees.
  • Rev. Jean Entonto, Lotumbe’s community development facilitator.
