Dick West

October 25, 2026

Richard West, known to most as Dick, passed away at home with Gail holding his hand on Oct 25 early in the morning in his sleep.

Dick, Gail, Evelyn and I have been friends and partners in ICA Taiwan since 1991 and I have known Dick even longer,  We have had many adventures in our work and I will miss him every day.

As Gail says, “Dick and I went to the Taipei ICA International conference from our ICA India home in November 1990, and we liked Taiwan so well, we never left!”

Dick’s service to ICA and to Taiwan was in many areas including facilitation but moving into coaching, mentoring, personal growth and healing.

His sense of humour and sense of authenticity were always present to everyone he would meet.  I have often said Dick can get on a bus and have two or three friends or clients by the end of the ride.  He was always fully present to each person he met.

On November 7, Gail, Evelyn & Larry Philbrook will host a celebration of his life and memorial of his passing from 1 PM to 5 PM at ICA office 3rd Fl No. 12 Lane 5 Tien Mou West Road, Taipei. This will be a pot luck feast so bring something to eat you would like to share with the group.

Whether you can make it or not please share a memory or story of a connection with Dick in your life.

If you wish to give a remembrance gift, Gail would like it to go as a donation to ICA.

Dick was a very generous person to ICA Chile, sharing his knowledge and even his airline miles so that I could travel to a meeting in India. He was a generous and charismatic person who devoted his life to service and to helping others.

What a spirit giant tucked away in Taiwan. It was such a gift to visit and talk with him from time to time. Heaven keeps getting richer!

Dear Gail. I am so sorry to hear about Dick’s death. I wish I could be with you and grieve with you. My images of Dick are all about him young and vibrant with a big grin on his face. at least 20 years ago. May your memories be many as you grieve among friends for his life of integrity and compassion. He was a steadfast friend. He is at peace now and you have many friends to walk with you in this loss. Please take care of yourself and grieve deeply for a wonderful man. I picture him on the endless sea.
